I work with a minor bench burner fueled by oxygen and propane. Colored rods of glass are melted in the flame. The hot glass is then wrapped around a stainless steel welding rod which creates the hole in the bead. When the bead is finished it goes into a kiln to anneal. At the end of my work session I turn down the kiln slowly to cool the beads to room temperature.

SAFETY is important in both in studio setup and working habits. I wear 100% COTTON clothing or other natural fibers. When I make beads I keep a closed drinking container with water because it is very important to stay hydrated while sitting at the torch all day. Eye protection is most important. I wear prescription safety glasses with didymium shades that help me see what I am working on.

My emphasis is on making good quality beads. I enjoy the challenge of incorporating color and texture in my work.

See the Gallery Page for finished jewelry I have made with my lampworked glass beads.
