Advent Clerestory Beads

Formed with Fire, Made with Love.

These beads came from the windows that looked over almost 40 years of services at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richboro, PA. The sun has shone through them on Baptisms, Weddings, Sunday Worship and Memorial services, Fellowship and Prayers. For all of their years I looked up and admired the beauty of their colors. I feel blessed to be able to create this work of art for your enjoyment.

To recycle the glass I need to process it from flat glass into rods. The flat glass needs to be heated very slowly to prevent thermal shock which causes shattering. When a small tip is molten I attach it to an eighth inch mandrel and then slowly melt the rest of the piece into a ball. Then I attach another mandrel to the other side of the ball and slowly pull it into a rod. Once it cools to room temperature, I can slowly introduce it into the flame to create a bead.
