About
Christel Hoffmann
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metals; Boston University, w/ minors
in Art History and Geology
Certified PMC(Precious Metal Clay) Guild Instructor
Christel teaches workshops in PMC, glass bead making and
other jewelry making techniques.
She designs and creates mostly one of a kind, original jewelry.
Her work is made of sterling, fine silver, gold, genuine and
synthetic stones, semi precious beads, found objects, and
her own hand made lamp-worked glass beads.
As a child, Christel was always interested in rocks and gems.
She would sift through the faceted glass stones belonging
to her grandfather, a goldsmith from Pforzheim, Germany. He
worked for someone else all his life, but also had a bench
at home. He loved making jewelry so much that he worked at
it until in his eighties. Starting college in geology, Christel
learned there was nothing in that discipline she wanted to
do for the rest of her life. Plan B-major in jewelry. Once
graduated, Christel acquired her grandfather's bench and tools
to set up her own studio. It is an honor and privilege to
work with his things.
"I love color. My inspiration comes from nature; fish,
shells, flowers, leaves, etc. I employ many processes in the
manufacture of my jewelry. Sometimes I have a specific idea
in mind, draw the design, and follow it closely. Other times
I enjoy experimentation and serendipity! I feel the need to
keep learning new things. Since graduation, I have taken many
workshops including: glass blowing, marble making, glass bead
making, Precious Metal Clay and several jewelry making processes."
Christel is a juried member of the PA Guild of Craftsmen
and has held several board positions for the Bucks County
Chapter of the Guild, including; Advertising/Publicity, Director
at Large, Vice President, and Membership Chairman. She was
the Craftsman in Residence at the PGC from 1996 to 2001.
